San Miguel de Allende Travel Diary

Last year, my inner critic tried to tell me I was ridiculous for wanting to travel to another country after moving to a new country. So, I traveled to another country anyway... here's how it went. I visited San Miguel de Allende with El Camino and Covetuer in June 2022💗 San Miguel de Allende is an amazing tourist destination in Mexico for art and food lovers alike. I must say this is one of the prettiest cities I've ever seen in my life! Our tour took us to artist homes and studios, amazing restaurants, and unique shops. Before we begin, I would love to give a shout-out to the photographers who made my content dreams come true: Katelyn and Mercedes.

Our Stay

We stayed at the boutique hotel Casa Hoyos steps away from the shops and eats in the city center. It's an oasis tucked away from the bustling streets with red clay tones from the open-air restaurant to the arches and tiles of the lobby to Bekeb on the rooftop.

My Favorite Moments

My favorite of the trip was visiting the home of interior designer, Maye Ruiz. Then visiting Daniel Valero's art and furniture studio, Mestiz. The use of organic materials and vibrant colors sparked joy!

I am officially a member of the Black Yee-haw Association and I love it here! We took a mini field trip to Rancho de Sol Dorado to enjoy the estate, learn some history, and ride horses. The ranch grounds are breathtaking and the place is run by the most adorable couple.

Delicious Food

La Alborada is a casual, affordable spot with local comfort foods and live guitarists. The quaint atmosphere is brought to life by the chatter of diners and the smell of simmering Pozole. FYI "La Alborada" is also a festival that signifies the fight of Archangel San Miguel against Lucifer.

The group also visited San Mezcal, a mezcal bar (with other options as well) with small bites. The speakeasy joint is run by Juan, a good friend of a fellow group member, who pulled out all the stops for us. Vibes were elite. Pours were heavy-handed. Laughter came from the belly. Highly recommend!

Chef Lucia Echeverria created our final dinner together. The food was an experience of flavors, textures, and corn. She based her menu for us on the staple of the nation and her upbringing. Talk about saving the best for last. Chef Lucia can be found creating beautiful meals at Secundino.

Take Me Back
